CLOS DE L’ORATOIRE
Clos de l’Oratoire des Papes is widely considered as an icon in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and it would be difficult to sum up its history, which dates back to the 19th century, in just a few lines.
From 1880 and 1926 to the more recent 2000, countless years have helped to forge the legacy of this mythical wine.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape was the first appellation in France to receive AOC classification in 1936 and is known for the remarkable diversity of its soils. The appellation counts four different terroirs originating from three distinctive geological eras: limestone fragments, rolled pebbles, sandy soils and red sandstones.
"With the Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes I want to obtain the purest expression of the different terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape."
The Technical Director at Clos de l’Oratoire des Papes uses his passion and savoir-faire in the vineyards and cellars to produce living, breathing wines with unrivaled depth, structure and strength of character.
The Priory lies in lush green surroundings at the entrance to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This truly unique building houses the vinification and aging cellars used to produce the fine wines of Clos de l’Oratoire des Papes. In 2021 a reception and events area was built within the Priory complete with the inauguration of ‘La Table d’Hôte’.
