CLOS DE L’ORATOIRE
It would be difficult to sum up its history, which dates back to the 19th century, in just a few lines.
From 1880 and 1926 to the more recent 2000, countless years have helped to forge the legacy of this mythical wine.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape was the first appellation in France to receive AOC classification in 1936. It is known for the remarkable diversity of its soils. The appellation counts four different terroirs originating from three distinctive geological eras: limestone fragments, rolled pebbles, sandy soils and red sandstones. This geological diversity provides a complex aromatic palette and great flavor richness to the wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which are renowned worldwide for their finesse and elegance.
"With the Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes I want to obtain the purest expression of the different terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape."
The Technical Director uses his passion and savoir-faire in the vineyards and cellars to produce living, breathing wines with unrivaled depth, structure and strength of character. He works meticulously in the vineyards and in the cellar to reveal wines that are both powerful and elegant, imbued with the authenticity and excellence that characterize the great wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Therefore, the wines produced by the estate thus reflect the unique terroir of the region, as well as the talent and passion of Edouard Guérin.
So, the Priory lies in lush green surroundings at the entrance to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This truly unique building houses the vinification and aging cellars used to produce some of the fine wines.
